Georgia Social Work License Renewal is Sept 30, 2024 - A Guide to CE Requirements

If you're a social worker licensed in Georgia, you probably know that your license renewal is coming up on September 30, 2024. Georgia social workers renew their license every 2 years on even years - so since it is 2024, it's that time again! We have checked and verified the requirements and we've put together a handy guide so you can be sure you know your CE requirements for renewal.


Georgia Social Work Continuing Education CE Requirements

Renewal Deadline: September 30, 2024

Renewal Frequency: Every 2 years on September 30th of even-numbered years.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)

  • CE Hours Required: 35 CE Hours every 2 years

  • Specific Topic Requirements: 5 Hours of Professional Ethics relating to any of the specialties of professional counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy. Ethics hours shall be obtained through synchronous activities only.


Can I take my CE's from Elevate CE? 

YES! Georgia Social Workers can take their CEs from Elevate CE. The Georgia Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage & Family Therapists accepts CE credits from a "professional association in the specialty in which the license is held." Elevate CE fulfills this requirement for social workers and is approved by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) ACE program. Are there any course format requirements or limitations for Georgia social workers?

A maximum of ten (10) hours of continuing education may be obtained asynchronously for each two-year renewal period. Elevate CE provides both Live Webinars (synchronous) and Recorded Webinars (asynchronous) webinar training for Georgia Social Workers. 


After fulfilling the 5 CE Hour ethics requirement, Georgia Social Workers must fulfill a minimum of 15 hours must be directly pertaining to specialty “core hours” and a maximum of 15 hours in non-specialty related hours.

  • Core Hours must be directly related to the specialty in which your licensure is held. 

  • Related Hours "Related hours are continuing education hours acquired in activities in a specialty other than the one in which the license is held or in the allied professions of psychiatry, psychiatric nursing or psychology."
